CHRONIC PAIN
Chronic pain can be just as taxing mentally and emotionally as it is physically. Having good stress management and coping strategies are essential to regulate your nervous system so you can manage the pain as well as you possibly can.
In addition, there are techniques with attention, language, perception and physical orientation (like mirror work) that can decrease the intensity and /or reduce the focus pain has in your life. Sometimes knowing how to communicate these issues with family members, friends and work colleagues can make life easier too.
As an occupational therapist we can also consider modifying tasks or ergonomically changing how you perform daily living activities to minimise the impact pain has in your every day life.
